Sir Rod Stewart’s much-anticipated 200th residency show in Las Vegas had to be canceled unexpectedly.
On Wednesday, the 79-year-old rocker was slated to perform at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, but he had to pull out just hours before the event due to strep throat—a painful bacterial infection.
Rod took to Instagram to express his regret, saying, “I’m desperately sorry to miss this 200th show celebration. Most people can work with strep throat, but obviously not me.
I’m absolutely gutted. I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused. Thankfully, we’ll now be returning in 2025, and I hope to see you all there.”
While the cancellation was a letdown, there’s good news for fans. Rod has announced a return to Las Vegas for a series of encore shows scheduled for next spring.
Before his illness became public, he had excitedly shared, “Vegas, I’m having too much fun for this to end, so we are coming back for an encore! Don’t miss The Encore Shows Las Vegas Residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace March 12-22 & May 29-June 8! Tickets on sale Monday at 10am PT!”
Rod’s residency at The Colosseum began in 2011 with his show, *Rod Stewart: The Hits*. Although his time in Sin City will end in 2025, Rod’s departure might be short-lived.
He’s hinted at a potential UK tour with Jools Holland to promote their 2024 joint album, *Swing Fever*.
With his 80th birthday approaching, Rod has been candid about his outlook on life. Despite acknowledging that his “days are numbered,” he expressed a fearless attitude towards death and plans to enjoy his remaining years.
“I’m aware my days are numbered, but I’ve got no fear. We all have to pass on at some point, so we’re all in the same basket.
I’m going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few—probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”
Keeping Up the Rock ‘n’ Roll Spirit
Rod admitted that while he can’t party like he did in the ‘70s and ‘80s, he still knows how to have a good time. “I have to protect my voice before and after every show.
But no, you think I just have water on my rider? You’re talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it.”
Health and Fitness
Despite past battles with prostate and thyroid cancer, Rod remains proactive about his health. He described himself as somewhat of a hypochondriac and emphasized the importance of using modern medical science.
Though he only takes occasional anti-inflammatories for knee issues, Rod stays fit by working out three to four times a day, aided by a personal trainer he’s had for over three decades. He’s even building a racing track at his Essex mansion to break the world record for the 100m sprint in his age group.
Birthday Plans and Family
For his 80th birthday in January, Rod is set for a grand celebration, although his wife, Penny Lancaster, 53, has kept the details under wraps. His eight children are also involved in the planning.
Rod’s children include Sarah Streeter, 61; Kimberly, 45; Sean, 44; and Ruby Stewart, 37, from his first marriage; Renee, 32, and Liam Stewart, 30, from his second marriage; and Alastair, 19, and Aiden Stewart, 13, with Penny.
