Richard Madeley recently weighed in on the ongoing Strictly Come Dancing scandal during his co-hosting duties on Good Morning Britain with Charlotte Hawkins.
Speaking on Thursday, the 68-year-old TV presenter admitted that the allegations weren’t entirely surprising to him. Madeley shared that many people he knows who have been involved with the popular dance show have been talking about these issues for years.
He revealed that today’s program would feature discussions with Strictly alumni Reverend Richard Coles and Edwina Currie, who would share their experiences on the show.
According to Madeley, the concerns about the show have been known to insiders for a long time but were kept under wraps until now.
The scandal surrounding Strictly Come Dancing has intensified with recent revelations.
Graziano Di Prima, 30, was dismissed from the show last week following reports of verbal and physical abuse towards his celebrity partner, Zara McDermott, 27. This comes shortly after Giovanni Pernice, 33, was suspended pending a BBC investigation into claims of off-camera misconduct made by Amanda Abbington, 50, and two other former celebrity partners.
Adding to the drama, footage from 2006 emerged showing former professional dancer James Jordan making threatening comments and displaying aggressive behavior during rehearsals.
James Jordan’s Response
James Jordan, 46, who left Strictly in 2012, has strongly defended himself against the resurfaced footage.
He accused the BBC of editing the content for entertainment purposes and insisted that the footage does not accurately reflect his behavior on the show.
Jordan claimed that none of his celebrity partners had ever complained about him during his tenure on Strictly.
BBC’s Handling of Allegations
The controversy deepened when it was revealed that Graziano Di Prima had been named as a ‘person of interest’ in the ongoing investigation.
BBC executives dismissed Graziano after production staff provided video evidence of him allegedly abusing Zara McDermott.
This came after several staff members had previously reported his behavior but were met with inaction.
The BBC has faced criticism for allegedly covering up Graziano’s behavior, with some insiders suggesting that the higher-ups were aware of his actions but chose to ignore them until the video evidence surfaced.
Zara McDermott’s Statement
In her statement, Zara McDermott expressed fear about coming forward with her complaints.
She cited concerns about public backlash, her career, and victim shaming as reasons for her hesitation.
As the investigation continues, insiders suggest that the issues with professional conduct on the show might be more widespread than initially thought.
