The South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced a new headline sponsor for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Betting company Betway will be stepping into the spotlight as the league’s main sponsor, replacing DStv, which has pulled out due to financial challenges.
Dr. Irvin Khoza, the PSL chairman, shared the news at a press conference held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the PSL headquarters in Parktown.
The decision marks a significant shift for the league, which has enjoyed a long partnership with DStv.
Changes in Sponsorship
Local reports reveal that DStv, part of the MultiChoice group, is ending its role as the league’s headline sponsor earlier than expected.
Their contract, which was set to run until September 2025, was established in September 2020 for a five-year term. This change comes after a long association with ABSA Bank, which concluded after 13 years.
Impact on the League
During DStv’s tenure, Mamelodi Sundowns emerged as the dominant team, securing the DStv Premiership title. As the league transitions to its new sponsor, fans and teams alike will be watching closely to see how this shift affects the competition.
