The new law also establishes the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, replacing the previous Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) that was created in February 2022 during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

The Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 enables the establishment of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, which will oversee the regulation of personal information processing.
