Nigeria Police Investigate Alleged Assassination Attempt on Kogi State Governor

Alleged Assassination Attempt on Kogi State Governor Under Investigation

The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory Command, has initiated an investigation into the alleged assassination attempt on Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Reports had emerged of an attack on the governor’s envoy while en route to an official event in Abuja.

Attacks Foiled: Quick Response by Security Agents

According to statements from the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the attackers, donning military uniforms, ambushed the governor’s convoy and opened fire on his vehicle.

Fortunately, the timely intervention of security agents prevented a potentially dire situation. Fanwo emphasized that national-level security officers would delve into the incident, which occurred at three different points, with the last confrontation taking place near the Kwali area in Abuja.

FCT Commissioner of Police Assures Investigation

In response to these developments, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, affirmed that an investigation into the alleged attack is underway.

The authorities are diligently looking into the matter to determine its validity and identify those responsible.

Governor Yahaya Bello Denies Assassination Attempt

Amidst the security scare, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has categorically refuted reports of an assassination attempt on his life.

He clarified that the incident was, in fact, a misunderstanding between members of his convoy and the military.

Governor Bello assured the public that his safety was not compromised, and he successfully reached his destination in Abuja, dispelling any concerns of an assassination plot.
