Pensioner Left with Serious Injuries After Two XL Bully Dogs Attack Him on Bardsley Avenue in Warrington

In a disturbing incident in Warrington, an elderly man was severely injured following a dog attack.

The attack occurred on Bardsley Avenue, where two large dogs, suspected to be XL Bully breeds, were involved.

The incident took place on the evening of February 24, 2025, at around 6:40 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the 84-year-old man with significant injuries.

He was immediately rushed to Aintree Hospital for treatment.

Police Action and Investigation

Upon arrival, Cheshire Police were joined by a firearms unit to assess the situation.

Two of the dogs, believed to be XL Bullys, were put down on the spot, while a third, smaller dog was seized by authorities.

The police have assured the public that investigations into the full circumstances of the attack are ongoing.

The officers remain at the scene, continuing their inquiries. “Our investigation into this shocking attack is still underway,” stated a spokesperson for Cheshire Police.

“We are working hard to understand exactly what happened and ensure those responsible are held accountable.”

Ban on XL Bully Dogs and Rising Attacks

This attack comes amid increasing concern over dangerous dog breeds, particularly XL Bullies.

Since December 31, 2023, laws restricting the breeding and sale of XL Bully dogs have been in place in the UK.

The law, which made owning or possessing an XL Bully without a valid Certificate of Exemption a criminal offence, was implemented after a series of alarming attacks involving these dogs.

It’s now illegal to let an XL Bully dog stray, to sell one, or to have one in public without a lead and muzzle.

Owners who fail to control their dogs, especially in dangerous situations, face serious penalties, including imprisonment, disqualification from owning pets, or the euthanasia of the dog.

Alarming Increase in Dog Attacks

The number of dog attacks has surged in recent years.

Police data reveals that attacks have increased by 20%, with more than 80 incidents reported every day.

In 2023, there were over 30,000 cases of dog attacks or injuries, a significant rise from 2022.

Of these, over 6,000 incidents required hospital treatment for injuries caused by dog bites.

As investigations continue into this particular attack, it highlights the growing concern surrounding dangerous dog breeds and the ongoing efforts to address public safety.
