The aftermath of the World Series can bring out extreme emotions in fans, and for one downtown Toronto McDonald’s, that tension turned physical.
Just hours after the American League champions, the Toronto Blue Jays, fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a dramatic Game 7, an altercation broke out inside a McDonald’s at around 2 a.m.
Angry Fan Snaps at Fellow Patron
Caryma Sa’d, an attorney and online activist, happened to be at the scene and captured the incident on video.
The footage shows a man wearing a Blue Jays jacket targeting another customer seemingly without provocation.
At one point, he thrust his elbow into the man’s hands, causing a cellphone to tumble to the ground.
The targeted patron responded verbally, though his words were unclear.
Whatever he said, it appeared to trigger the man in the Blue Jays jacket, who slurred, “What did you say to me?” as he shoved the other man against the wall.
Calm Reaction Meets Aggression
Despite the intimidation, the man on the receiving end of the assault remained composed.
He explained that he, too, was a Blue Jays fan and even pointed out that a camera was recording the scene. The aggressive fan seemed unconcerned.
“I don’t give a s*** about a camera,” he replied, his anger undiminished.
McDonald’s Staff Step In
The confrontation only ended when McDonald’s staff intervened, separating the two men and escorting the jacketed fan outside.
Sa’d, concerned for her own safety, refrained from directly confronting the angry patron but felt filming the incident was important to document his belligerent behavior.
Fans Stranded After Late-Night Loss
According to Sa’d, the Blue Jays fan had been moving around the restaurant, accusing other diners of giving him the wrong look.
The McDonald’s was one of the few spots open downtown after the Dodgers’ extra-innings victory, leaving many fans stranded due to limited late-night transit options.
Police Involvement
Toronto police have been contacted for further details, though no arrests have been reported at this stage.
The incident serves as a reminder that the high emotions of championship games can sometimes boil over in unexpected ways.
