Ransom Paid: Bandits Release 121 Abducted Bethel Baptist High School Students

Ransom Paid to Secure Release of Abducted Students

In a revelation that has sent shockwaves through Kaduna State, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, has disclosed that a ransom of ₦250 million was paid to secure the release of 121 Bethel Baptist High School students who were abducted in July 2021.

This shocking revelation comes after the safe return of Treasure Ayuba, the last student to escape from captivity.

Clearing Misinformation and the Ordeal of Treasure Ayuba

Rev. Hayab addressed the erroneous information circulating about Treasure Ayuba’s release, which suggested that the boy had chosen to remain with the bandits.

He emphatically stated that this was not the case, as Treasure did not appear to be someone who would willingly make such a decision.

The ordeal of Treasure Ayuba, who spent 28 months in captivity, was further compounded by the fact that the kidnappers abducted those attempting to deliver the ransom on multiple occasions.

A Moment of Triumph and Resilience

Treasure Ayuba’s miraculous return is being celebrated not only by his family, Bethel Baptist High School, and the Baptist community but also by all well-wishers and Nigeria as a whole.

Rev. Hayab emphasized the resilience and determination that define the Nigerian people, transcending religious affiliations and ethnic origins.

Government’s Commitment to Student Safety

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State received Treasure Ayuba and assured him of the state government’s support. The governor emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students in various schools across the state.

Measures include the establishment of security committees in all schools, the deployment of KADVIS (Kaduna Vigilance Service), and the physical security enhancement of school premises to create a conducive learning environment.

The revelation of the substantial ransom paid to secure the release of the Bethel Baptist High School students highlights the challenges and dangers faced by educational institutions and the youth in Nigeria due to the prevalence of kidnappings.
