MET Police has been accused of giving out information to a staff of Algeria embassy.

Metropolitan Police Officer Suspended Over Allegations of Improper Conduct

A Metropolitan Police officer finds themselves in hot water as they have been suspended amidst allegations of misconduct. The accusations involve the officer passing information to personnel at the Algerian embassy, leading to a disciplinary hearing scheduled to commence on September 26.

Improper Relationship and Unauthorized Information Sharing

The officer, who has remained unidentified in public reports, faces allegations of initiating an “improper relationship” with a member of embassy staff between March 2019 and December 2020. During the initial three months of this period, it is claimed that the officer shared information with embassy staff, devoid of any legitimate policing purpose.

Unauthorized Access to Sensitive Documents

In a separate set of allegations, the same officer is accused of accessing a criminal intelligence report and a crime report concerning their neighbor. Despite having no direct involvement in the investigation, the officer allegedly viewed these documents without authorization. Specifically, it is alleged that between January 18 and February 13, 2019, the officer accessed a criminal intelligence report three times. Additionally, on April 6 and 7, 2019, they viewed a crime report related to the same neighbor and investigation, actions for which they had no rightful authority.

Failure to Report and Improper Conduct

The officer’s role as a community engagement officer also comes into question, with claims that they continued an improper relationship with a member of staff at the Algerian Embassy after their involvement in an investigation had officially concluded. Moreover, these interactions were purportedly not correctly reported or recorded. Furthermore, between March 29 and June 22, 2019, the officer is accused of passing information to embassy staff without a valid policing purpose.

Potential Consequences

If the allegations are substantiated, the officer, who is currently on suspension with full pay, may be found guilty of gross misconduct, which could result in their dismissal from the Metropolitan Police force. It’s important to note that the officer’s identity remains undisclosed due to concerns about the sensitivity of their job, as directed by a legally qualified chairperson overseeing the disciplinary hearing, following an application made by the officer’s legal representatives.
