Memphis Airbnb Host Faces Legal Action for Alleged Extortion Attempt Against Guest from Mississippi

Shawn Mackey, a guest from Mississippi, is suing an Airbnb host for allegedly attempting to extort him by sharing security footage of him with another woman.

Dispute Over Additional Fees:
Mackey rented a house in Memphis for a weekend reunion with friends but refused to pay an additional $960 fee claimed by the host, Pamela Fohler, for breaking house rules and inviting more guests than allowed.

Retaliation and Harassment:
In response to Mackey’s negative review and refund request, Fohler allegedly emailed a photo of him with another woman to his wife, taken from the property’s security camera.

This led to Airbnb temporarily suspending Mackey’s account and demanding the payment of the additional fees.

Legal Action and Emotional Distress:
Mackey’s lawsuit accuses Fohler of causing him extreme emotional distress, public humiliation, and damage to his marriage.

Fohler denies sending the email and has filed a counterclaim.

Ongoing Legal Battle:
The case is ongoing, with Mackey facing a deadline to respond to motions filed by Fohler and Airbnb. Both parties have not publicly commented beyond their court claims.
