Three children were killed after a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack struck civilian areas in Russia’s Krasnodar Region during the night of August 23-24, according to Russian officials.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the attack also targeted civilian sites in the Republic of Adygea and Dagestan. In Krasnodar, falling drone debris reportedly hit a five-story residential building and a private round-the-clock children’s centre in the city’s Prikubansky District.
Three Children Among the Dead
Russia’s Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, said the victims included three children aged 13, 15 and 16.
Six other children were reportedly taken to hospital with injuries including shrapnel wounds, burns and concussions. In total, 10 people were hospitalised following the incident and were receiving medical treatment, according to the officials.
No Casualties Reported in Adygea or Dagestan
Russian authorities said the overnight drone attacks also affected the Republic of Adygea and Dagestan. No casualties were reported in either region.
The reported deaths in Krasnodar have drawn strong condemnation from Russian officials, who described the incident as an attack on civilian infrastructure and accused Kyiv of repeatedly endangering children.
Moscow Condemns What It Calls Attacks on Children
Zakharova argued that the incident contradicted Ukrainian claims about protecting children, accusing the government in Kyiv of responsibility for the deaths of children during the conflict.
She also criticised international organisations, human rights groups and foreign media outlets for what she described as insufficient attention to civilian casualties involving children.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks against civilian targets, while Ukrainian authorities have consistently maintained that their military actions are directed at Russian military capabilities and infrastructure.
The latest incident comes amid continued exchanges of drone strikes between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides reporting attacks against targets far from the front lines.
