England’s young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed faced a visa issue upon the team’s return from Abu Dhabi, initially denied admission due to a single-entry visa.
This echoed an earlier incident with Shoaib Bashir, who had to return home due to delays related to his Pakistani heritage.
Oversight by the ECB
The ECB was at fault this time, having overlooked Ahmed’s visa, which lacked multi-entry approval.
The situation unfolded at Rajkot’s Hirasar Airport, causing confusion but was swiftly resolved by local authorities, granting Ahmed an emergency 48-hour visa.
Efficient Resolution
England’s captain, Ben Stokes, along with coach Brendon McCullum and team manager Wayne Bentley, stayed back with Ahmed, while the rest of the team proceeded to their hotel.
They were assured that the paperwork could be managed remotely to secure Ahmed the correct visa.
Optimism for the Third Test
Stokes expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved, praising the airport personnel for their swift action.
Ahmed appeared in good spirits during training, indicating that the team expects him to be available for the third Test against India.
