Megan McKenna has revealed that a terrifying burglary at her UK home was the turning point that convinced her to relocate to Germany permanently.

The television personality, who is married to footballer Olivier Burke, admitted the traumatic experience left her too frightened to continue living alone in Britain while her husband was based overseas.

The couple now live in Berlin with their young son, Landon.

Silence Broken After Legal Proceedings Ended

Speaking on the Great Company With Jamie Laing podcast, the former TOWIE star explained that she had kept the ordeal private for years because criminal proceedings were still ongoing.

She said she avoided discussing the incident publicly while those accused were being prosecuted, but now feels able to share how deeply the experience affected her.

According to Megan, the break-in changed her outlook on personal safety and ultimately influenced her decision to build a new life in Germany.

Frightening Night Began With Strange Noises

Recalling the incident, Megan said she had recently returned from a holiday with Olivier before he travelled back to Germany for football commitments, leaving her alone at home with her dog.

After falling asleep around 11 p.m., she woke to what she described as violent shaking throughout the house.

Initially confused, she quickly realised intruders had entered the property.

The fear intensified as she heard loud banging coming from inside the house, leaving her convinced she was in immediate danger.

Intruders Allegedly Used Weapons to Break Through Wall

Megan described the terrifying moment masked men armed with machetes and baseball bats allegedly attempted to force their way into her bedroom.

She explained that the attackers smashed through a partition wall connecting her dressing room to the bedroom, causing her bedroom mirror to crash down in the process.

Because she routinely locked her bedroom door before sleeping, she believes that precaution may have prevented the intruders from reaching her immediately.

Desperate Call to Police During the Ordeal

As the attack unfolded, Megan contacted emergency services, saying the wait for officers felt like the longest few minutes of her life.

She recalled police urging her not to confront the intruders while officers rushed to the property.

However, fearing for her dog’s safety, she decided to speak to the men despite the warnings.

Megan revealed she had injured her foot during the chaos and was bleeding when she eventually approached the burglars, who demanded and took her jewellery before leaving.

Emotional Impact Lasted Long After the Burglary

The singer said the experience shattered her sense of security and left her convinced that she was no longer safe living alone in the UK.

Although she praised police for their response, she said the emotional strain continued as investigators later asked her to participate in court proceedings while she was undergoing IVF treatment ahead of welcoming her son.

She explained that balancing the legal process with fertility treatment became overwhelming.

Frustration Over Outcome of Criminal Case

Megan also expressed disappointment after learning that those convicted over the burglary were later released from prison.

She admitted that discovering they were back in the community reignited feelings of anxiety and reinforced her belief that relocating abroad had been the right decision for her family.

Second Burglary Added to Her Fears

The frightening incident was not the first time Megan had been targeted by burglars.

In 2017, while appearing on The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE), her home was also broken into.

During that burglary, thieves reportedly stole valuable jewellery, designer handbags, sunglasses and several sentimental possessions.

At the time, there were concerns that the property’s location may have become known through scenes filmed for the reality television series.

New Chapter in Berlin

Since stepping away from reality television, Megan has focused on building a music career while also working as a content creator.

She now lives in Berlin with Olivier Burke and their son, saying the move has given her the fresh start and peace of mind she was searching for after years of living with the trauma of repeated burglaries.
