The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) has approved a no-fee application process for prospective students seeking admission for the 2027 academic year.

The university confirmed the decision in a statement released on Wednesday, encouraging applicants to submit their applications before the relevant deadlines.

Application Deadlines Announced

UMP has set two closing dates for applications, depending on the programme.

Applications for undergraduate programmes, advanced diplomas, honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas will close on 30 November 2026.

Applicants seeking admission to master’s and doctoral programmes have until 30 January 2027 to submit their applications.

University Warns Against Admission Scams

Alongside the announcement, UMP warned prospective students about individuals who might attempt to exploit the free application process by demanding money in exchange for admission or other services.

The university cautioned the public against paying anyone who promises to process an application, secure preferential treatment, obtain a place on a waiting list or arrange student accommodation.

“No person can guarantee admission to the university in exchange for payment,” UMP stated.

Fraudulent Email Demands R3,500

The university specifically highlighted a fraudulent email circulating that demands R3,500 from applicants in exchange for securing admission.

UMP urged prospective students to remain vigilant and treat suspicious requests for payment with caution.

Applicants Urged to Use Official Channels

To protect themselves from fraud, applicants have been advised to submit their applications through the university’s official application website.

UMP also warned candidates not to pay individuals or unauthorised third parties for application processing or admission. Applicants should avoid sharing confidential information, including their student numbers and PINs, with unverified parties.

The university further advised prospective students to verify any suspicious admission-related requests directly with UMP before taking action.
