Manchester United is reportedly weighing a mid-season loan for forward Joshua Zirkzee, despite his recent £36.5 million transfer in the summer.
After joining from Serie A’s Bologna on a five-year contract, Zirkzee now finds himself potentially on the move again, just six months into his tenure at Old Trafford.
Summer Transfer Details and Contract Breakdown
Zirkzee, 23, was the first acquisition of United’s summer window, with United choosing not to activate his £34.5 million release clause.
Instead, they paid an additional £2 million, agreeing to spread the payment over three years.
The transfer brought excitement among fans and was expected to strengthen the team’s offensive options under then-manager Erik ten Hag.
Limited Impact and Declining Starts
Though he scored his debut goal in United’s season opener against Fulham, the Dutch international has since struggled to find his footing.
Zirkzee has only made four Premier League starts, failing to score again in his 17 appearances.
He briefly held the spotlight with a late winner in his first game but has since been relegated to the bench, as the club increasingly relies on Rasmus Hojlund in the striker role.
New Manager’s Different Approach
The recent arrival of manager Ruben Amorim may add another layer of complexity to Zirkzee’s situation.
Amorim, previously with Sporting CP, reportedly has his eye on Portuguese star Viktor Gyokeres, whom he might attempt to bring to Manchester.
If this happens, Zirkzee could find himself as the third-choice forward, severely limiting his playing time.
Juventus Expresses Interest in January Loan
Italian side Juventus has shown interest in securing Zirkzee on a loan deal. Juventus is dealing with an injury crisis, with Arkadiusz Milik sidelined until the new year.
They rely heavily on Dusan Vlahovic, and the addition of Zirkzee could help provide much-needed depth.
Juventus sees the Dutch forward as a strong candidate to temporarily bolster their attack while Milik recovers.
What Lies Ahead for Zirkzee?
As January approaches, United may seriously consider letting Zirkzee head out on loan, with Juventus emerging as a likely destination.
Whether Zirkzee finds a better fit in Italy or fights for his spot at Old Trafford remains to be seen, but it’s clear that both the player and the club are exploring options for the future.
