Liverpool Unveils 28-Man Squad for Pre-Season Tour of USA with Youngsters Stepping Up Due to Key Player Absences

Liverpool is gearing up for an exciting pre-season tour of the USA, and they’ve just announced their 28-man squad.

The Reds are set to take on Real Betis, Arsenal, and Manchester United in a series of friendlies, with their first match kicking off against Real Betis in Pittsburgh.

Manager Arne Slot is hoping for a strong response from his team following a narrow 1-0 loss to Preston in their previous closed-door friendly.

However, he’s been forced to field a youthful squad, as 11 senior players are missing due to their summer vacations.

Notable absentees include Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Diogo Jota, all of whom have recently wrapped up their Euro 2024 campaigns.

The absence extends to Joe Gomez, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Ibrahima Konate, who are still recovering from their tournament exploits with England, the Netherlands, and France.

Additionally, Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker, Alexis Mac Allister, and Luis Diaz are missing after their Copa America duties.

With several first-team stars absent, this tour presents a golden opportunity for Liverpool’s young talent to shine.

Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Dominik Szoboszlai will be among those making the trip, but many of the squad spots will be filled by promising youngsters.

Ben Doak, Viteslav Jaros, James McConnell, and others will be eager to make their mark.

Unfortunately, Jayden Danns and Bobby Clark won’t be joining the tour due to injuries.

Nevertheless, the squad is packed with emerging talent, including Luke Chambers, Marcelo Pitaluga, and Harvey Blair, all of whom will be vying for a chance to impress.

Tour Schedule

Liverpool’s US tour kicks off on July 27 with a match against Real Betis at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, which holds 68,400 fans.

On August 1, they’ll face Arsenal at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, accommodating 67,594 spectators. The final leg of the tour will be against Manchester United at Williams Brice Stadium in Pittsburgh, with a capacity of 77,559.

Before diving into the Premier League season, Liverpool will also play a friendly against Sevilla at Anfield on August 11.

Their Premier League opener is scheduled for August 17 against Ipswich at Portman Road.
