Curtis Jones has recently addressed some confusion regarding his comments about his time under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Last week, Jones expressed how happy he felt playing under Slot, suggesting that the style of play suited him better than previous tactics.
However, he has now clarified that his words were not intended to disrespect his former manager, Jürgen Klopp.
Jones took to The Redmen TV after Liverpool’s pre-season victory over Arsenal to explain his remarks.
He emphasized that he deeply respects Klopp and values everything the former Liverpool boss did for him.
“I want to clear things up,” Jones said. “It seemed like I was being disrespectful, but that’s not the case at all. Jurgen knows how much I appreciate him and his staff. I would never disrespect him.”
Jones reflected on how Klopp’s belief in him was pivotal in his development. “Jurgen gave me the platform to prove myself. There were times when I was on the brink of going out on loan or leaving the club, but he stuck by me.
My career at Liverpool is thanks to him,” Jones shared. He wanted to make it clear that his recent comments were not meant to overshadow Klopp’s contributions.
New Beginnings with Arne Slot
With Slot now at the helm, Jones is eager to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup—something he struggled to achieve under Klopp. “This is the happiest I’ve been,” Jones admitted last week. “Arne’s style of play suits me and the team.
He’s involved in every aspect of training and focuses on the details. It’s a significant change, but I’m excited about it.”
Embracing Slot’s Vision
Jones described Slot’s approach as a refreshing shift from the more direct style he experienced previously.
“We’re focusing on controlling the game and breaking down teams more methodically.
It’s not about rushing the attack but being patient and strategic,” he explained. Jones believes that Slot’s methods will take time to fully implement but is confident in the process.
Early Success for Slot
So far, Slot’s tenure has started promisingly with Liverpool securing a 1-0 win over Real Betis and a 2-1 victory against Arsenal. The matches have seen notable performances, including Mohamed Salah’s goal and Fabio Carvalho’s contribution. Harvey Elliott also stood out with two assists, earning praise for his performance.
Jones and the rest of the team are looking forward to continuing this positive momentum under Slot’s guidance.
