Liverpool have confirmed that their Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion and the women’s fixture against London City Lionesses will proceed as scheduled despite severe weather linked to Storm Boelo.

Both matches are due to kick off at 2pm GMT on Sunday, with the men’s team playing at Anfield and the women’s team taking on London City Lionesses at St Helens Stadium.

The announcement came four hours before kick-off, following concerns about travel conditions and the possibility of further disruption caused by strong winds and heavy rain.

Club Warns Supporters to Take Care When Travelling

In a statement, Liverpool confirmed that both fixtures would go ahead but urged supporters to take precautions when making their way to the stadiums.

The club advised fans to plan their journeys in advance, allow additional travel time and exercise caution because of the windy conditions.

Stewards will be available at both venues to assist supporters, with the club asking fans to follow their guidance upon arrival.

Liverpool also wished supporters safe journeys ahead of the two matches.

Yellow Weather Warning Remains in Place Across Merseyside

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering nearby Merseyside until 9pm on Sunday.

Forecasters have warned of heavy rain and strengthening winds as Storm Boelo continues to affect parts of the country.

The conditions raised concerns about whether it would be safe for supporters to travel to sporting events in the Liverpool area.

Despite those concerns, Liverpool confirmed that neither of its scheduled fixtures would be postponed.

Aintree Race Meeting Abandoned Over High Winds

The decision to proceed with Liverpool’s football matches came after Sunday’s race meeting at Aintree was cancelled because of the weather.

The racecourse, located approximately four miles from Anfield, had been scheduled to host its Halloween Family Fun Day, featuring the William Hill Old Roan Chase.

Aintree announced that the meeting had been abandoned after overnight wind speeds reached 44mph, with forecasts indicating that significant winds would continue until at least early afternoon.

Aintree Prioritises Safety of Participants and Visitors

In its announcement, Aintree said the decision to cancel the meeting had been made because of the high winds associated with Storm Boelo.

The racecourse said it was disappointed that the event could not proceed but emphasised that the safety of participants, visitors and staff remained its highest priority.

The cancellation highlighted the disruption caused by the storm, even as Liverpool prepared to welcome supporters to Anfield and St Helens Stadium for their respective fixtures.
