It looks like Leicester City is making a move to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
According to recent reports, the Foxes are in discussions with Arsenal about bringing striker Reiss Nelson on loan this summer.
Reiss Nelson, now 24, had a somewhat limited role at Arsenal last season.
Despite making 14 appearances off the bench, he didn’t manage to score or assist in any of those matches.
His sole start in the Premier League came in a 2-0 victory over Luton in April. Over the past two years, Nelson has only started 10 matches for Arsenal.
Previous Loan Stints
Nelson’s career has seen him spend time away from Arsenal on loan before.
He had a stint in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim during the 2018-19 season and then a year-long loan with Feyenoord two years later. Now, it seems he’s headed for another temporary move, this time to Leicester City.
Reunion with Steve Cooper
The deal, as reported by The Sun, could be a significant step for Nelson, potentially including an obligation for Leicester to buy him outright.
This move would reunite Nelson with Steve Cooper, his former youth team manager with the England Under-16s and Under-17s. Cooper, who recently took on the role of Leicester’s manager, signed a three-year contract in June after being let go by Nottingham Forest last December.
Potential Departures at Arsenal
Arsenal might see more of their homegrown talents leave this summer.
Emile Smith Rowe is another player who could be on the move, with Fulham recently having a £30m bid for him rejected.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace might be preparing to make a move for the 23-year-old midfielder as well.
