AmaZulu FC is shaking things up in their attack by bringing in Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro on a season-long loan.
This move is part of their strategy as they gear up for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, aiming to bounce back from their 11th-place finish last year.
Recently, AmaZulu made some significant changes to their squad.
They parted ways with several first-team players, including George Maluleka, Augustine Kwem, Veluyeke Zulu, and Victor Letsoalo, who has moved to TS Galaxy.
Kwem’s departure was particularly notable, given that he was the team’s top goal scorer last season, netting eight goals in 28 appearances.
Etiosa Ighodaro Joins AmaZulu
In their quest to bolster their attack, AmaZulu have secured Etiosa Ighodaro’s services on loan for the upcoming season.
Ighodaro, who hails from Nigeria, has previously played for SuperSport United, featuring in 35 matches, scoring eight goals, and providing two assists.
This will be Ighodaro’s fourth consecutive loan move since joining Mamelodi Sundowns from Abuja College in July 2021.
His previous loan spells include stints with the University of Pretoria, Chippa United, and SuperSport United.
What’s Next for Ighodaro?
A source mentioned, “AmaZulu have reached an agreement to sign Ighodaro on loan for the upcoming season. It seems he hasn’t quite fit into Sundowns’ plans yet, which is why he’s been out on loan.
AmaZulu is looking for someone to fill the gaps left by Victor Letsoalo and Augustine Kwem, and I believe Ighodaro could be a great addition.
If he stays injury-free, he could make a significant impact.”
Additional Reinforcements
In addition to Ighodaro, AmaZulu also welcomed Luvuyo Phewa on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Phewa, who was previously on loan at Cape Town Spurs, which was relegated last season, will be another fresh face in the squad.
