Collaboration for Food Security

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has expressed the State Government’s willingness to collaborate with the Kingdom of Denmark, particularly in the agricultural sector, to ensure food security. This collaboration aims to address the increasing demand for food in Lagos, given its substantial population despite its limited landmass.

Warm Reception and Existing Relationships

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, welcomed the Consul General and Head of Trade of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ms. Jette Bjerrum, on behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. During the meeting at his office in Alausa Ikeja, Deputy Governor Hamzat acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Lagos State and Denmark.

Focus on Agriculture and Upcoming Event

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of agriculture as a major focus of his administration. He mentioned the upcoming Nordic Nigeria Connect event organized by the Scandinavian Countries in November and urged the Kingdom of Denmark to provide insights into the participating companies. This information would help the Lagos State government identify sectors that could benefit the state, particularly in the context of food security.

Management of Agricultural Produce

In line with the goal of ensuring food security, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need to enhance the management of agricultural produce. Lagos, despite its small landmass, has a substantial population, resulting in a significant demand for food. The Governor expressed the state’s intention to track the origin of agricultural produce to reduce costs and improve quality, aligning with the government’s food security initiative.

Efforts to Achieve THEMES PLUS Agenda

Governor Sanwo-Olu mentioned the THEMES PLUS Agenda, which encapsulates various needs of Lagosians. He emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving the desired outcomes, and he highlighted the importance of projects like the recently launched Blue Line Rail, a pioneering initiative in Nigeria.

Understanding Lagos State’s Agenda

Consul General Jette Bjerrum emphasized the importance of understanding the Lagos State Government’s agenda ahead of the Nordic Nigeria Connect event. She mentioned her recent visit to Denmark with the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Sune Krogstrup, where they engaged with institutional investors, companies, and ministers to encourage positive responses to the Nigerian President’s invitation regarding business opportunities in the country. This collaboration between Lagos State and the Kingdom of Denmark holds promise for addressing food security and fostering economic development.
