Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, Declines Attendance at President-elect Tinubu’s Swearing-in Ceremony

…By Jack Sylva for TDPel Media. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has made it clear that he will not be present at the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The ceremony, marking Tinubu’s inauguration as the 16th democratically elected President of Nigeria, is scheduled to take place today at Eagle Square in Abuja.

In a statement relayed by his media aide, Tai Obasi, Obi stated that attending Tinubu’s swearing-in would be “extremely weird” considering that he is currently challenging the legitimacy of Tinubu’s electoral victory in court.

While acknowledging that his principal is a humble and reasonable man who strives for peace and unity in the country, Obasi emphasized that such a move would be both strange and unreasonable.

However, Obasi did not confirm whether the Labour Party leadership and Obi himself received individual invitations to the ceremony.

He remarked that while he couldn’t verify the existence of an invitation, it was certain that Obi would not be in attendance.

Addressing other rumors, Obasi denied any knowledge of plans for a demonstration or protest ahead of the inauguration.

He clarified that neither he nor Obi were aware of such intentions or the individuals behind them.

Obasi further asserted, “He is Obi and his followers are Obidient.

They are not happy about how everything was manipulated against Obi who has given them so much hope.

They followed him and waited for him all the way.”

As the inauguration day unfolds, it remains evident that Peter Obi will abstain from the ceremony, citing ongoing legal proceedings as the primary reason for his absence.
