The Princess of Wales has shared a heartfelt message following her successful completion of the National Three Peaks Challenge, thanking her family and supporters after undertaking the demanding endurance event in aid of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
The challenge, which saw Catherine scale the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours, also prompted an emotional tribute from her brother, James Middleton, who reflected on a promise the siblings made during the princess’s cancer treatment.
Family Welcomes Princess at Final Stage of Challenge
Although the Princess completed the climbs herself, she was greeted by Prince William and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—at the foot of Snowdon in Wales as she crossed the finish line.
Photographs shared on social media captured affectionate family moments, including Kate embracing Princess Charlotte, holding Louis’ hand and celebrating with her loved ones after the demanding journey.
James Middleton also joined the family at the final stage, accompanied by his dog, as the family marked the achievement together.
James Middleton Recalls Promise Made During Hospital Stay
In an emotional Instagram message, James Middleton praised his sister’s determination and resilience, recalling conversations they shared while she was undergoing hospital treatment.
He revealed they had spoken about climbing mountains together and the restorative effect that nature can have on both physical and mental wellbeing.
Expressing his admiration, James described the Princess as an inspiration for balancing her public responsibilities with her roles as a mother, wife, daughter and sister, adding that he was proud to have supported her during the fundraising challenge.
Princess Explains Personal Motivation Behind Challenge
In a written statement accompanying her photographs, the Princess explained that the event carried deep personal significance following her own experience with cancer.
She said a cancer diagnosis affects every aspect of life—not only physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually—and noted that recovery extends far beyond medical treatment alone.
According to Catherine, the Three Peaks Challenge was intended not simply as a test of endurance but as an opportunity to highlight life after diagnosis while raising funds for a cause that has become especially meaningful to her.
Raising Awareness for Cancer Care Beyond Treatment
Ahead of beginning the challenge, the Princess said she felt fortunate to be healthy enough to undertake the demanding trek.
She explained that meeting people living with and beyond cancer had strengthened her desire to contribute to organisations supporting patients throughout every stage of recovery.
Funds raised through the campaign will support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s work in expanding holistic care services for people affected by cancer.
Royal First Achieved During Gruelling Endurance Test
The National Three Peaks Challenge covers approximately 23 miles of walking, more than 10,000 feet of ascent and around 462 miles of travel between Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.
Kate was transported between the mountains by her support team while Mountain Rescue assisted along the route.
The accomplishment is believed to make the Princess of Wales the first member of the Royal Family to complete the famous endurance challenge.
Meeting Inspiring Fundraisers Along the Route
During the climb, the Princess met 11-year-old Ted Haslam, who completed much of the challenge in a wheelchair with the support of his team while raising funds for charity.
Kate later made a private donation—understood to be between £1,000 and £2,000—to support Ted’s fundraising campaign after visiting his online fundraising page.
She congratulated the young fundraiser and his supporters, describing meeting inspirational participants like him as one of the highlights of her own journey.
Ted, who was left paralysed after developing an aggressive spinal tumour as a child, completed the challenge over 30 hours while raising money for a charity supporting children with life-threatening illnesses.
Journey Reflects Princess’s Recovery Following Cancer
The challenge represents another milestone in Catherine’s gradual return to public life after revealing she had completed chemotherapy in September 2024.
Earlier this year, she announced that she was in remission following treatment at The Royal Marsden Hospital, where she later returned as Joint Patron.
Since then, the Princess has increasingly spoken about the emotional impact of cancer and the importance of supporting patients beyond treatment, using both her public engagements and fundraising efforts to highlight recovery, resilience and hope.
