Josemaría Escrivá was born in 1902 in Barbastro, Spain, into a devout Christian family.
His early years were marked by hardship: losing his younger sisters at a tender age, his father’s business failing, and relocating to Logroño for a better life.
The Encounter That Changed Everything
One winter day, Escrivá stumbled upon bare footprints in the snow, baffled by who could walk on ice without shoes.
Discovering they belonged to a monk shifted his perspective entirely.
A Divine Calling Emerges
He began to see those footprints as a sign from God, signaling a greater purpose for him.
Gradually, he felt a clear calling to follow Christ closely as a priest.
Journey to Priesthood
Known for his generosity and cheerful demeanor, Escrivá was admired for his simplicity and dedication to prayer.
His peers held him in high regard as he pursued his studies at the seminary.
Academic Pursuits and Turmoil
After being ordained a priest on March 28, 1925, Escrivá moved to Madrid to study law, though the Spanish Civil War disrupted his plans.
Despite the turmoil, he eventually completed his legal studies and later earned a theology doctorate from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.
