Residents Concerned as Nine Individuals Still Missing Following Bodija Estate Explosion

In the aftermath of the devastating explosion that shook the Bodija area of Oyo state last week, the Bodija Estate Resident Association (BERA) has raised an alarm, revealing that approximately nine individuals remain unaccounted for.

BERA President Muyiwa Bamgbose expressed this concern during a conversation with the media at the association’s headquarters in Bodija, Ibadan.

Accounting for the Missing: Detailed Mapping to Confirm Figures

Muyiwa Bamgbose emphasized the pressing issue of missing persons, stating that the count has shifted towards eight or nine individuals.

The association has taken proactive steps by bringing forth a detailed map of the affected street and initiating a house-by-house accountability process.

Bamgbose highlighted the importance of accuracy in the figures, indicating that if someone seen one day is untraceable the next, it raises concerns that demand immediate attention.

Official Death Toll Update by Oyo State Government

Previous reports had indicated five fatalities, 77 injuries, and damage to 58 houses resulting from the explosion in Ibadan’s Dejo Oyelese Street.

The Oyo state government, however, provided an official update, announcing that the death toll has now risen to five individuals.

Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, revealed that two more bodies were recovered, indicating the ongoing rescue operation.

Owoseni shared this information during an interview with Channels Television, emphasizing the continuous efforts to manage the aftermath of the tragic incident.

Continuous Rescue Efforts Amidst Rising Casualties

Fatai Owoseni acknowledged that the rescue operation is still in progress, and the casualty count continues to evolve.

While providing an update on the situation, he reported that, as of a recent update, two additional bodies had been recovered.

The collaboration between security operatives and the medical team underscores the commitment to addressing the consequences of the explosion and providing closure to affected families.
