Trooping the Colour Parade Amid Sweltering Temperatures:

The UK experienced its first 30°C temperature of the year, with Heathrow recording a temperature of 30.5°C on Saturday, as confirmed by the Met Office.

However, alongside the soaring temperatures, thunderstorm warnings were still in effect for later in the day and Sunday.

Despite the sweltering heat, the Prince of Wales reviewed his troops on horseback during The Colonel’s Review at Horse Guards Parade in St James’s Park.

The event attracted thousands of spectators who witnessed the complex drill manoeuvres carried out by soldiers and horses to military music.

Soldiers Faint in the Heat:

Unfortunately, the extreme heat took a toll on some soldiers participating in the parade.

At least three soldiers fainted and had to be taken off on stretchers, while two others required assistance to leave the parade ground.

One member of the Massed Bands of the Household Division collapsed but managed to return to his feet, receiving applause from the audience.

Prince William expressed his gratitude to the soldiers who participated in the review via a personal tweet, acknowledging the challenging conditions they faced.

The Challenges of Trooping the Colour:

James Calford, an 18-year-old soldier from Cardiff, described the Trooping the Colour ceremony as incredibly uncomfortable due to the heat and the weight of the uniform and rifle.

He emphasized that the ceremony is much more challenging than it appears on television, particularly when soldiers are required to wear their tunics and bearskin caps under scorching conditions.

The Colonel’s Review serves as the final evaluation of the Household Division before the Trooping the Colour event on June 17 to commemorate the official birthday of the monarch.

Thunderstorm Warnings and High Temperatures:

While the heatwave persists, thunderstorm warnings have been issued across various parts of the UK.

The southward movement of warm air is expected to elevate temperatures, accompanied by the potential for thundery showers, hail, and gusty winds.

The Met Office predicts temperatures reaching as high as 31°C in central and southeast England on Saturday.

Intense showers could lead to surface water flooding, causing potential disruptions in affected areas.

Continued Heat and Thunderstorm Risks:

The high temperatures are expected to continue into Sunday, reaching 30°C in southern UK regions, with an increased risk of thunderstorms in western and central areas.

Forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker notes that balmy nights can be expected, with temperatures remaining around 20°C in some towns and cities by 10 pm on Saturday.

Sunday will see a mix of sunshine, warmth, and humidity, along with a greater chance of catching showers and thunderstorms in western parts of the UK.

Health Warnings and Weather Alerts:

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber alert for hot weather until Monday morning, highlighting potential impacts on the entire health service and the wider population.

Additionally, a yellow weather alert has been issued for several regions, indicating the possibility of service disruptions due to weather conditions.

Thundery showers may persist into Monday, while the hot and humid weather is expected to continue with sunny spells throughout the week.
