A chilling surveillance video has emerged, showing the final moments of a Colombian singer’s life as he waited to enter a venue in Bogotá.
The footage captures a gunman approaching and shooting the singer just before he was about to enter the establishment.
Last Moments Before the Attack
In the video, the singer is seen checking his smartphone while standing outside the venue on a Wednesday night.
Behind him, two men are seen casually scrolling through their own phones across the street.
As the singer puts his phone away and gestures towards one of the men, the situation takes a dark turn.
The Shooting
The assailant, who had been concealing a gun in his waistband, approaches the singer and opens fire, shooting him multiple times.
Panic ensues as bystanders flee the scene.
The gunman then stands over the singer, fires another shot, and escapes, discharging several more rounds into the air as he runs away.
Investigation and Identifications
The Bogotá Metropolitan Police have not disclosed the name or age of the victim, who was known for his vallenato music performances in the city.
However, Police Mayor Rúben Pérez confirmed to City TV that the identities of the shooter and two accomplices have been established.
“We have fully identified those who committed the crime,” Pérez stated.
“They are three individuals, one of whom is the shooter.
We believe our efforts will be successful.”
Rising Crime Rates
This tragic incident occurs amid growing concerns over violent crime in Bogotá.
The city is grappling with a surge in homicides, which are expected to exceed the figures from 2023.
Data from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police reveals that at least 732 homicides were recorded in the first eight months of 2024, compared to 697 in the same period last year.
Crime Trends
Statistics show that hired assassins are responsible for 46 percent of the killings, with firearms, knives, or machetes used in 50 percent of cases.
Additionally, 40 percent of the victims had ties to organized crime, drug trafficking, extortion, or were affiliated with criminal groups.
Increased Police Presence
In response to the escalating violence, the Bogotá Metropolitan Police have ramped up patrols in 60 areas, including Santa Ana, where the singer was killed.
This increased presence aims to curb the rising crime rate and enhance public safety.
