Gennaro Gattuso Takes the Reins at Marseille
Marseille, a prominent French Ligue 1 club, recently made a significant managerial change by appointing Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach.
This announcement was made on September 27, and it follows the resignation of their former coach, Marcelino Garcia Toral, just a week prior.

Gattuso, a renowned Italian football figure and World Cup winner, notably spent the majority of his illustrious playing career with AC Milan.
In recent times, there were speculations linking him to Marseille’s French rivals, Lyon.
Gattuso, who has previously managed clubs like AC Milan and Napoli, had been without a club since his departure from Valencia at the beginning of this season.

Upon being unveiled as the new manager of Marseille, the 45-year-old Italian tactician expressed his joy and pride at the opportunity.
He commented, “I am very happy and proud to join Marseille — a club and a stadium, the Velodrome, in which I had the opportunity to play and which is famous throughout Europe for the passion and fervor that emanates from it.”
Marseille’s Current Standing and Upcoming Challenges
As of now, Marseille holds the seventh position in Ligue 1, with their latest match resulting in a 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Additionally, this season, they are participating in the Europa League, and their next challenge involves hosting Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion for their second group-stage match in the competition.
Gattuso’s Debut in the Helm
Gattuso’s managerial debut for Marseille is set to take place on Saturday, September 30, against Monaco, with the game scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m.
This appointment follows a turbulent period for Marseille, marked by Marcelino’s abrupt departure due to a confrontational meeting between fan representatives and the club’s management.
Reports from Italy indicated threats and warnings to club President Pablo Longoria and his top colleagues, who ultimately decided to remain at the helm despite the turmoil.
