GB News star Eamonn Holmes voices public disdain for Phillip Schofield’s return to television, saying he’s proud to have contributed to his downfall in the UK

As the buzz grows around Phillip Schofield’s TV comeback, another familiar face in the media world, Eamonn Holmes, isn’t holding back.

Holmes, a long-time television personality and co-host on GB News, recently took a dig at Schofield, saying he’s “proud” to have played a part in exposing the former This Morning host’s behavior.

Their tense relationship has been in the public eye for a while, but Holmes’ latest comments added more fuel to the fire.

GB News Reaction to Schofield’s Return

On a recent episode of GB News Breakfast, Holmes’ co-host, Isabel Webster, mentioned that Schofield claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” in the wake of his affair scandal.

Without missing a beat, Holmes responded: “Well, if I’m one of the people who threw him under the bus, I’m very proud to have done it.”

He didn’t stop there, going on to say that Schofield is “addicted to fame” and deserved the public exile he’s currently experiencing.

Schofield’s UpcAoming Show and Controversial Remarks

Schofield, 62, is set to appear in a new three-part series, Cast Away, airing on Channel 5.

In the show, he openly refers to himself as “shamed” and “disgraced” following the revelation of his affair with a younger male colleague.

Schofield’s candid comments included a comparison between the reactions to age-gap relationships in the gay and straight communities, which sparked backlash from some quarters.

One insider bluntly criticized Schofield’s remarks, saying, “Phil lied to his colleagues, bosses, and friends. It wouldn’t have mattered if it was a woman or a man.”

Long-Standing Feud Between Holmes and Schofield

The animosity between Holmes and Schofield is nothing new.

Their working relationship began in 2006 on This Morning, but they were never close.

According to insiders, the real breaking point came in 2019 when Holmes’ then-wife, Ruth Langsford, filed a complaint against Schofield after he interrupted her on air during a segment.

Things escalated further when Holmes and Langsford were controversially dropped from the Friday slot on This Morning in 2021, adding to Holmes’ frustration with what he saw as Schofield receiving preferential treatment from ITV.

Industry Support for Schofield’s Return

While Holmes has been vocal in his disdain, not everyone in the TV world has turned their back on Schofield.

Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, and Josie Gibson have shown their support for Schofield’s new show by liking his announcement on Instagram.

However, noticeably absent from the comments was his former co-host and close friend, Holly Willoughby.

Veteran broadcaster Vanessa Feltz also shared her thoughts, saying she was “surprised but delighted” by Schofield’s return to television, expressing hope that the show would be great entertainment.

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha, on the other hand, admitted she cringed when she first saw the trailer for Cast Away, calling it “embarrassing.”

What’s Next for Schofield?

As Schofield prepares to step back into the spotlight, opinions remain divided.

Some in the industry are curious to see how he navigates his comeback, while others, like Holmes, remain skeptical of Schofield’s motivations and public persona.

With the first episode of Cast Away airing soon, all eyes will be on how the public and media react to Schofield’s attempt at redemption.
