Fulham Stun Arsenal with a Draw, Paul Merson Slams Gunners for Dropping Points and Falling Behind in the Premier League Title Race at Craven Cottage

Arsenal’s recent performance has left fans and pundits alike questioning their title aspirations.

After a 1-1 draw against Fulham, Paul Merson didn’t hold back in his criticism of his former side.

Despite William Saliba’s equalizer, Arsenal were unable to grab the three points, especially after Bukayo Saka’s late goal was controversially ruled out.

Merson Calls it a Missed Opportunity

Reflecting on the game, Merson made it clear that he felt Arsenal let an opportunity slip.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said, “It’s not a good point, it’s two points dropped.

Arsenal were just starting to hit a good run, but that disallowed goal was a nightmare at the end.

They really needed to win that match. Advantage Liverpool.”

Indeed, the result leaves Arsenal six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand due to their postponed clash with Everton, which was called off because of Storm Darragh.

Liverpool’s Strong Position Without Playing

It has been a dream weekend for Liverpool.

While Arsenal and Manchester City both dropped points, Jurgen Klopp’s side has found themselves in a stronger position, despite not playing.

Jamie Redknapp couldn’t help but highlight the benefits for Liverpool, saying, “What a weekend for Liverpool with Arsenal and Man City both dropping points, putting them in an even better position.”

Redknapp also noted the tension of the final moments of the game, particularly with the VAR decision that ruled out Arsenal’s late effort.

“Arne Slot would have had his heart in his mouth watching those last few minutes,” he said.

“Martinelli just had to keep himself onside.”

Fulham’s Determined Defense

Fulham’s resilience also drew praise from Redknapp, who acknowledged their strong defensive effort.

“You have to congratulate Fulham—they dug in. Lukic and Berge were brilliant, they didn’t stop and made it so difficult for Arsenal,” he added.

“Antonee Robinson did well against Saka at times, and if you stop that flow of Saka and Odegaard, you can stop Arsenal.”

Arsenal’s Lackluster Performance

Arsenal entered the match off the back of three consecutive Premier League victories, yet their performance against Fulham was far from their best.

They seemed lacking in the flair and dominance that had been their trademark earlier in the season.

Manager Mikel Arteta will certainly have work to do to get his side back to their peak form.

City Struggles and Liverpool’s Growing Lead

As for Manchester City, they’ve also faced difficulties recently, now eight points behind Liverpool after being held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace.

With Arsenal also faltering, the Premier League title race is beginning to look more favorable for Liverpool, who continue to capitalize on the slip-ups of their rivals.

What’s Next for Arsenal?

Looking ahead, Arsenal will need to regroup and improve their performance if they hope to stay in the title race.

With tough matches on the horizon, every point will count as they fight to close the gap on Liverpool.
