In a shocking turn of events, a former local television anchor from Missouri has been arrested after her elderly mother was found dead from multiple stab wounds.
What appeared to be a happy family life on social media has now been shattered by a grim investigation.
Arrest of Angelynn Mock
Angelynn Mock, 47, who previously anchored for Fox 2 in St. Louis between 2011 and 2015, was taken into custody on Friday in Wichita, Kansas.
Authorities allege she is responsible for the death of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers.
Police said officers were called to a Wichita home around 8 a.m. for a stabbing report.
They found Avers in bed with multiple stab wounds and later confirmed she died after being taken to a hospital.
Mock was also treated at the hospital, though officials have not released details about her injuries.
She has now been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Witness Describes Chaotic Scene
Neighbors were left stunned by the incident. Alyssa Castro told KAKE that Mock appeared at her vehicle covered in blood, urgently asking to call 911.
“She had blood all over her hands and body, and she asked us to call the police,” Castro said.
“She seemed scared and shaken, then ran back inside with the phone. Police later returned it to us.”
Castro described trying to comfort Mock in the moments after the stabbing. “I asked her if she was okay, and she was clearly terrified.
She just ran off,” she added.
Mother’s Life and Legacy
Anita Avers was known locally as a marriage and family therapist, working with Wichita Counseling Professionals.
She and her daughter had often shared glimpses of their bond on social media, with images showing them hugging and smiling, and her profile picture featuring Mock reporting live at a baseball game.
Investigation Ongoing
Details about what led to the stabbing remain unclear.
The Wichita Police Department has been contacted for further information, and the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to this tragic death.
