A man widely praised for his bravery during the Bondi terror attack is now facing criminal charges following an alleged domestic incident involving his elderly father.

Ahmed Al Ahmed, 44, who became known across Australia for confronting one of the gunmen during the December attack at Bondi Beach, has been charged with assault and stalking.

The allegations stem from an incident that reportedly occurred at his father’s residence in March.

According to reports, Al Ahmed is accused of placing his father in a headlock during the alleged confrontation. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 29 to answer the charges.

Court Orders Restrict Contact With Father

Police have also secured an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) on behalf of Al Ahmed’s father.

The order prohibits him from assaulting, stalking, harassing, threatening, or contacting his father.

Under the conditions of the AVO, Al Ahmed must remain at least 100 metres away from his father’s home and workplace.

The protective order was issued as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.

Family members declined to comment publicly when approached regarding the charges and the court order.

National Recognition Followed Heroic Actions at Bondi

Al Ahmed became a household name after the terror attack at a Jewish festival in Bondi Beach on December 14.

During the chaos, he reportedly confronted one of the two armed attackers and managed to wrestle a firearm away from the gunman.

The suspect later retreated and was subsequently shot dead by police.

The second alleged gunman survived and remains before the courts as legal proceedings continue.

Many Australians hailed Al Ahmed’s actions as courageous, crediting him with helping to protect festival attendees during the terrifying incident.

Honoured by Local Leaders for Extraordinary Courage

Several months after the attack, local authorities formally recognised Al Ahmed for his actions.

In March, he was presented with a Key to the City and awarded a lifetime Waverley Beach Pass.

The pass grants him free waterfront parking access at some of Sydney’s most popular beaches.

At the ceremony, Waverley Mayor Will Nemesh praised Al Ahmed for running toward danger when many others were trying to escape.

The mayor described his actions as a symbol of hope during one of the community’s darkest moments, saying his intervention helped save innocent lives and demonstrated remarkable courage under extreme circumstances.

Global Support Poured In During Recovery

Al Ahmed suffered significant injuries during the attack and underwent a lengthy recovery process.

His story attracted international attention, prompting people from around the world to contribute to an online fundraising campaign established to assist with his medical and recovery expenses.

The fundraiser ultimately raised millions of dollars, reflecting the widespread admiration many people felt for his actions during the crisis.

Brothers Also Facing Separate Criminal Proceedings

The fundraising campaign later became the centre of a separate family dispute.

Two of Al Ahmed’s brothers were charged after allegedly making threatening phone calls to him concerning the money raised through the fundraiser.

Prosecutors allege the brothers each demanded $100,000 from the funds collected.

Both men have denied the allegations and entered not guilty pleas.

As those proceedings continue, Al Ahmed now faces his own legal battle, with the assault and stalking charges set to be examined when he appears in court later this month.
