Fans of bog snorkeling put their mettle to the test at the international championships

Participants have once again donned their snorkeling gear and flippers to take part in the revived World Bog Snorkelling Championships in Wales.

This annual event is held at Waen Rhydd peat bog in Llanwrtyd Wells, where contenders aim to complete two consecutive lengths of a 60-yard water-filled trench carved through the peat bog in the quickest time possible.

The resilient athletes wore snorkels, diving masks, and flippers, along with determined expressions, as they ventured into the cold and murky waters. The occasion also saw a touch of elegance, with one swimmer painting her toenails pink to match her snorkel.

Adding a whimsical touch, a participant balanced a large plastic toad on their head while gliding through the water.

In addition to the competitive spirit, a couple of spectators joined the fun by dressing up in imaginative outfits: they wore pink cardboard boxes with “Barbie” and “Ken” written on them, and another person donned a “limited edition” bog snorkelling 2023 label.

Amidst the crowd, a person embraced a sunflower costume, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event, which was sponsored by Rude Health.
