A court case unfolding at the Old Bailey has pointed to Beinash Batool, the stepmother of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, as the “true villain” in the young girl’s tragic death.
Sara’s father, Urfan Sharif, who had previously been accused, is now claiming that he was wrongly blamed, with his lawyer highlighting Batool’s alleged responsibility.
Father’s Testimony and Defense
Urfan Sharif’s defense, led by Naeem Mian, KC, argues that Sharif was at work when Sara collapsed on August 8.
Sharif reportedly returned home at Batool’s urgent request, only to find his daughter unresponsive and being watched over by Batool.
According to his lawyer, Sharif attempted CPR, desperately urging Batool to call an ambulance, but Batool allegedly responded, “Leave it, she’s dead.”
Accusations of Lies and Manipulation
In his statements, Sharif alleged that Batool had manipulated him for years, including claims about having twins from a prior relationship.
Sharif recounted receiving birthday cards and seeing photos of these supposed twins, only to later learn they were fabricated.
Additionally, Sharif described a history of physical and emotional abuse, claiming Batool once slapped him and concealed her connection to a former partner involved in criminal activities.
Denials of Physical Abuse Towards Sara
Sharif, who became emotional during his testimony, denied any involvement in his daughter’s death.
Through his lawyer, he stated he had not beaten, burned, or used any objects to harm Sara.
He acknowledged disciplining her occasionally but insisted it was done without violence.
Although a recorded call from Pakistan seemed to imply he had taken responsibility, Sharif now denies any direct role in her death.
Previous Custody Dispute with Sara’s Mother
The court heard about a custody battle between Sharif and his ex-wife, Olga Sharif, with Urfan eventually gaining full custody of Sara.
Accusations of domestic violence and child abuse had previously been raised against Olga, prompting Sharif to complete courses on parenting, first aid, and domestic violence.
By October 2019, Guildford Family Court awarded him custody.
Shocking Details of Abuse Revealed in Court
Sara’s autopsy results were presented in court, painting a disturbing picture of her final days.
She was found with extensive bruises, bite marks, and burns, suggesting prolonged and severe abuse.
The autopsy further revealed that Sara had endured head injuries, fractures to her spine, ribs, collarbones, and limbs, with evidence that she had been tied up and scalded.
Sharif’s Perspective on Disciplinary Actions
Sharif’s lawyer clarified that while Sharif disciplined Sara, he believed her severe injuries might have come from altercations with other children, not from any violent actions on his part.
Mr. Mian asserted that Sharif was unaware of any abusive incidents happening under his roof.
Stepmother and Father Deny Charges
Both Batool and Sharif stand trial, facing charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.
As the trial continues, testimonies and new evidence seek to reveal the full truth of what happened to Sara Sharif, and who is ultimately responsible for her tragic fate.
Awaiting Court Decision
The case remains ongoing, with the court continuing to hear testimonies and review evidence.
The tragic story of Sara Sharif continues to capture attention, as family members and the public await the court’s final verdict on her untimely and devastating death.
