Shortly after casting his ballot in Florida, former President Donald Trump firmly rejected a reporter’s question suggesting he should call for “no violence” among his supporters on Election Day.
Standing alongside former First Lady Melania Trump, who joined him at the polling station, Trump was quick to respond, making it clear he did not appreciate the implication behind the question.
Trump Denies Need to Caution Supporters
As Trump exited the polling booth, a female reporter asked if he would advise his supporters against violent behavior.
Trump replied emphatically, saying, “My supporters are not violent people. I don’t have to tell them that, and they certainly don’t want any violence.”
His response reflected his confidence that his base understands and supports peaceful conduct, dismissing any suggestion otherwise.
Defending His Supporters
The former president appeared irritated by the line of questioning, recalling the criticism he has faced over his supporters’ actions during the January 6 Capitol riot.
He noted that his followers are “great people” and reiterated that they do not condone violence.
Trump’s answer indicated his discomfort with the reporter’s insinuation that his supporters might engage in aggressive behavior, calling her question itself suggestive of a bias toward violence.
Trump’s Criticism of the Reporter’s Approach
Continuing with his response, Trump turned the focus back on the reporter, stating, “These are people that believe in no violence, unlike your question.”
He added, “You believe in violence,” directing an accusation toward the journalist that underscored his frustration with the media’s portrayal of his supporters.
Confidence in Victory and Commitment to Fair Results
After casting his vote, Trump expressed confidence in his chances of winning, despite tight polling numbers in his race against Kamala Harris.
He noted a perceived Republican turnout advantage and suggested that if this trend continued, he expected to be declared the winner.
However, he also assured the press that he would accept the results of a “fair” election.
“If it’s a fair election, I would be the first one to acknowledge it if I lost,” he said, adding that so far, he believes the process has been fair.
Reflecting on His Campaign Efforts
As the election neared its conclusion, Trump took a moment to reflect on his campaign, calling it possibly the “best of the three” he has run.
He mentioned the successes of his previous campaigns, highlighting improvements he believes were made in this round.
However, he also suggested that if the outcome does not favor him, he might question the results, citing lingering concerns about election integrity.
