Emma Raducanu’s Mother Maneuvers Past Romeo Beckham to Watch Her Daughter’s Stunning Wimbledon Performance

That’s exactly what happened to Emma Raducanu’s mother, Renee Zhaia, today.

She had a bit of an awkward moment shuffling past not just Romeo, but also former Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.

Despite the minor hassle, she made it to her seat just in time to see her daughter dazzle on the court.

The Beckhams seem to have a new tradition this year: watching Emma Raducanu play.

Earlier, David Beckham, alongside his mother Sandra, watched Raducanu’s first-round match from the Royal Box.

Today, it was Romeo’s turn to support the British star.

Before the match, Raducanu was determined to give it her all against Elise Mertens, the world number 33 from Belgium.

“Results-wise, I have no expectations,” she said.

“I just have expectations of myself to really put myself on the line on the court and fight and not let any frustrations get to me.”

Walking onto the court with a smile and a wave, Raducanu was greeted by cheers from the crowd, though there were a noticeable number of empty seats.

The former British number one, who received a wildcard to play at Wimbledon, started strong.

She quickly took a 5-0 lead in the first set, showcasing the form that won her the US Open in 2021.

After a brief comeback attempt by Mertens, Raducanu held her service game and roared triumphantly as she took the first set 6-1.

Inspired by England’s Football Win

Raducanu’s victory in the first round against Renata Zarazua was also inspired by England’s “ugly” win over Slovakia in the Euros.

In her post-match interview, Raducanu jokingly compared her performance to the football team’s, saying, “I was for sure nervous, I think everyone could see that in my tennis a little bit but at the end of the day you have to just do what it takes to get over the line.”

She added, “Watching the football last night, it was like winning ugly, it all counts.”

The Summer Buzz

Reflecting on the atmosphere, Raducanu said, “It’s incredible, I think there’s such a good buzz in the summertime.

Although today’s a little bit cloudy, I think the tennis, the football, the Formula 1… it just really uplifts myself.”

She expressed her motivation to keep coming back and playing at Wimbledon, driven by the electric atmosphere and the crowd’s support.

Moving Forward

Despite her past struggles in Grand Slam events since her US Open triumph, Raducanu’s performance today showed promise. She is hopeful to advance beyond the second round, aiming to recreate the magic of her 2021 victory.
