A shocking rape case in London has sparked urgent fears that more women could have been harmed.
Detectives say a man who lured a woman to a hotel under the false promise of employment has now been convicted — but officers believe this may not have been an isolated attack.
The offender, police warn, may have targeted other victims in a similar way, and they are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
How the Victim Was Lured With a Fake Job Offer
The case centres around Gurwinder Singh, 37, from Northolt in west London.
Police say Singh approached the victim with what seemed like a genuine work opportunity — a job assisting an injured sportsman who needed care support.
The offer appeared professional enough to gain her trust, and she agreed to meet him at a hotel in Paddington in June last year.
What she believed was a discussion about employment quickly turned into something far more sinister.
A Calculated Deception Through WhatsApp Messages
Investigators revealed that Singh went to extreme lengths to manipulate the woman before the meeting even happened.
He allegedly pretended to be a woman in WhatsApp conversations, building trust and making the situation feel safe.
When they met in person, he introduced himself as a fellow care professional, claiming they were simply arranging documents and work details.
The victim was then left waiting in a hotel room for the supposed client to arrive.
The Attack Inside the Paddington Hotel Room
Instead of an injured sportsman arriving, Singh returned and claimed that he himself was the client.
Police said he undressed and demanded that the woman give him a massage.
She refused — but he then assaulted and raped her.
The victim, who is legally protected by lifelong anonymity, managed to escape the room.
Two members of the public reportedly came to her aid after she fled.
A Chilling Attempt to Silence Her
In an especially disturbing detail, detectives said Singh tried to intimidate the woman into staying quiet.
He allegedly told her the assault had been recorded and threatened to release the footage online to make it “go viral” if she reported him.
Despite the fear and trauma, the woman contacted Metropolitan Police detectives the very next day — a decision police say was crucial in securing his arrest and conviction.
Conviction at Southwark Crown Court
Singh has now been found guilty at Southwark Crown Court of multiple serious offences, including:
-
Rape
-
Attempted rape
-
Assault by penetration
-
Two counts of sexual assault
-
Common assault
He is expected to face a lengthy prison sentence.
Police Fear He May Have Targeted Other Women
Detectives say the investigation uncovered troubling patterns.
Following his arrest, officers discovered that Singh booked rooms at the same Paddington hotel more than 100 times between December 2024 and August 2025.
Police also found evidence that he had been communicating with numerous other women, often presenting himself as someone who could help them find work.
This has raised serious concerns that more victims may exist.
Appeal for Women to Come Forward, Especially in Specific Communities
The Metropolitan Police are now urging anyone who may have had contact with Singh — online or in person — to speak up.
Detectives are particularly keen to hear from women in the Indian community living in Hayes or Southall, as they believe he may have deliberately targeted a specific group.
However, officers stress that anyone with information, regardless of background, should contact them.
Officers Praise Victim’s Courage
Detective Constable Lydia Webb, who led the investigation, praised the survivor’s bravery.
She said the victim’s decision to come forward ensured Singh has been convicted and prevented him from causing further harm.
Police have also reassured potential victim-survivors that reports will be handled sensitively, with compassion and support.
What’s Next?
Singh is due to be sentenced at the same court on April 15.
Meanwhile, detectives are continuing their efforts to identify any additional victims and trace women he may have contacted through WhatsApp or similar platforms.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 3916/16FEB26.
