Bitcoin Crash Warning as Analysts Predict August Could Repeat the Brutal 2022 Bear Market Collapse

Bitcoin extended its recent decline on Friday, falling to its weakest level in more than two weeks as investors reduced exposure to risk assets ahead of the end of the month.

The pullback came alongside weakness in US equities, while analysts warned that historical market patterns could signal additional volatility in August.

Bitcoin Drops to Lowest Price Since Mid-July

The world’s largest cryptocurrency lost around 3.5% during Friday’s trading session, slipping to approximately $62,369.

The decline pushed Bitcoin to its lowest level since July 14, erasing part of the strong gains it had accumulated earlier in the month.

Despite the sharp intraday decline, Bitcoin remained on track to finish July with an overall monthly gain of roughly 8.5%, making it the asset’s strongest July performance since 2022.

US Stocks Struggle While Asian Markets Rebound

Financial markets delivered mixed performances across regions.

US stock markets opened lower and remained under pressure throughout the session, failing to benefit from the optimism that lifted Asian equities earlier in the day.

South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI index posted a record-breaking single-day rally of nearly 18%, recovering sharply after recent heavy losses linked to the global semiconductor sector.

Market analysts at trading firm QCP Capital said technology and chip-related stocks were responsible for both the recent sell-off and the dramatic rebound, reflecting investor sensitivity to developments in artificial intelligence and memory-chip industries.

Crypto Trading Mirrors Equity Market Swings

According to QCP Capital, activity across cryptocurrency markets intensified during the sharp movements in Asian equities.

The firm noted that digital assets are becoming increasingly connected to broader financial markets, particularly technology stocks, with shifts in regional equity sentiment now having a more noticeable influence on crypto liquidity and trading volumes.

Investors also monitored developments in Asia after reports that authorities in both Japan and South Korea intervened in currency markets.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 1%, following the US Federal Reserve’s decision earlier in the week to keep interest rates steady.

Analysts Warn August Could Bring Fresh Weakness

While Bitcoin enjoyed a solid recovery throughout July, some market analysts believe history suggests caution as August begins.

Several traders pointed to similarities between current price action and Bitcoin’s performance during the 2022 bear market.

At that time, the cryptocurrency briefly stabilized before entering another period of decline.

Crypto analyst Rekt Capital said Bitcoin may initially hold near current levels during the opening days of August but warned that previous market cycles indicate the possibility of renewed selling pressure before a more durable recovery develops.

Technical Resistance Continues to Limit Recovery

Technical indicators also suggest that Bitcoin still faces significant hurdles before regaining stronger upward momentum.

Analysts highlighted the cryptocurrency’s 50-month exponential moving average, currently near $65,820, as an important resistance level.

Bitcoin has attempted to break above that threshold twice since mid-June but has failed on both occasions.

Until buyers are able to overcome that barrier, many traders believe the market could remain vulnerable to further corrections, especially if broader economic uncertainty continues to weigh on global risk assets.
