Nicky Campbell has spoken publicly about a distressing night that saw his daughter seriously injured in an alleged e-bike hit-and-run, followed by another shocking incident while she was receiving medical treatment in hospital.
Broadcaster Reveals Family’s Ordeal
Veteran BBC presenter Nicky Campbell shared details of the incident on social media on Saturday, describing what he called a long and emotional night for his family.
According to Campbell, his 26-year-old daughter, Lilla Campbell, was struck by an e-bike while out in Peckham, south London, alongside her sisters.
The rider reportedly fled the scene before authorities arrived, leaving the injured woman requiring urgent medical attention.
Hit-and-Run Sparks Search for Evidence
Campbell said there is hope that CCTV footage from the area may help identify the individual responsible for the collision.
He explained that a crowd quickly gathered after the incident, but the e-bike rider allegedly left before being stopped.
Despite the seriousness of the crash, the broadcaster expressed gratitude that the outcome was not even worse.
Lilla was treated by paramedics and later transported to hospital.
While she sustained significant injuries, she has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.
Emergency Services Praised for Rapid Response
The radio presenter praised the speed with which emergency crews reacted to the call for help, revealing that an ambulance arrived within minutes.
Campbell said the swift actions of medical personnel played a crucial role in ensuring his daughter received prompt treatment following the collision.
He described the family as fortunate, acknowledging that the injuries could have been far more severe.
Disturbing Incident at Hospital
The ordeal did not end once Lilla reached hospital.
Campbell said that while Lilla, her sisters and a friend were waiting in a trauma area at London’s King’s College Hospital, a man allegedly entered the room and exposed himself to the group.
The broadcaster described the individual as intoxicated and said the incident added further distress to an already traumatic evening.
Suspect Arrested Following Hospital Incident
Police officers who were present at the hospital responded immediately to the situation.
According to Campbell, the man accused of exposing himself was arrested and later taken into custody.
He commended officers for their professionalism and support throughout the night, saying he personally spoke with police after arriving at the hospital in the early hours of the morning.
Heartfelt Thanks to Police and Medical Staff
Despite the events of the night, Campbell used his public statement to express appreciation for those who assisted his family.
He offered thanks to officers from the Metropolitan Police Service as well as doctors, nurses and support staff at King’s College Hospital, praising their dedication and care.
The broadcaster said the family was deeply grateful for the compassion shown by everyone involved during a night that combined both a serious road incident and an alarming episode inside the hospital.
Recovery Underway
Lilla is the second of Campbell’s four daughters, alongside Breagha, Kirsty and Isla.
While her recovery is expected to take time, she is now back at home with her family.
Investigations into the reported e-bike hit-and-run are expected to continue as authorities seek to establish exactly what happened and identify the rider involved.
