Australia’s I’m A Celebrity Cast Ready for Drama as Dean McCullough and GK Barry Set to Clash Over Their Approaches to Work and Relaxation in the Jungle

Australia’s I’m A Celebrity Cast Ready for Drama as Dean McCullough and GK Barry Set to Clash Over Their Approaches to Work and Relaxation in the Jungle

The stage is set for a showdown in the jungle as two of this year’s I’m A Celebrity contestants, TikTok star GK Barry and radio DJ Dean McCullough, are already displaying starkly different approaches to camp life.

Both are rising stars, with GK Barry, at 25, gaining fame for her comedic takes on lifestyle and culture, while Dean, 32, is carving out a name for himself at BBC Radio 1.

The pair are about to join a star-studded cast, including Coleen Rooney and NDubz’s Tulisa, when the show kicks off this Sunday.

But it’s clear that their contrasting personalities could lead to some tension down the line.

A Very Different Mindset

Dean McCullough, an upbeat radio DJ, is determined to keep the camp in order.

He’s made it clear that he won’t tolerate laziness. Describing himself as a “glass half full” kind of guy, Dean said he’s all about maintaining a clean and tidy camp, ready to take on tasks like washing dishes and cleaning the dunny.

He warned that anyone trying to slack off would quickly get an earful.

“I’m happy to do the washing, I’m happy to do the dunny, but I don’t want anyone thinking they can put their feet up and have a lazy time,” he said.

Dean also stressed that he’s not one to let grumpy attitudes bring the camp down.

“If someone is constantly negative, I’ll pull them aside for a chat and remind them we’re here to make the most of this experience,” he explained.

On the flip side, GK Barry isn’t as fussed about the cleanliness of the camp or her role in the chores.

“I’m a glass half empty kind of gal,” she admitted, laughing.

“I’m just here to relax, maybe chill in a hammock, and eat a few maggots. I’m not here to get stressed about the camp duties.”

While Dean’s enthusiasm for a clean, happy camp could clash with GK’s laid-back approach, it seems both have a clear idea of how they want to handle the jungle’s challenges.

Dean McCullough’s Jungle Adventure

Dean, the BBC Radio 1 DJ from Northern Ireland, is no stranger to the limelight.

His career took off in 2020 when he filled in for Clara Amfo on Radio 1, and he’s since become a regular on the station’s weekday morning shows.

He’s now preparing for his biggest TV appearance to date, I’m A Celebrity.

Arriving at Brisbane Airport ahead of the show, Dean was in high spirits, sporting a bright green tracksuit and a big smile.

He even shared a fun tidbit, saying he was in Australia to pick up two koalas he had adopted, humorously naming them Anthony and Declan after the show’s hosts.

Despite this being his first time in Australia, Dean was confident.

“I’ve dealt with a lot of snakes in my time,” he said, referencing the challenges he’s ready to face in the jungle.

Meet the All-Star Lineup

Dean will be joined by a diverse group of stars, including Strictly Come Dancing winner Oti Mabuse, McFly’s Danny Jones, and boxing legend Barry McGuigan.

Other notable contestants include Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall, pop sensation Tulisa, and Coleen Rooney, who is reportedly receiving a record-breaking paycheck to appear on the show.

With the personalities already at play, fans can expect plenty of drama, laughs, and surprises.

As the jungle awaits, the question remains: how will Dean and GK’s different approaches to camp life play out?

I’m A Celebrity 2024 will air on ITV and ITVX at 9 PM on Sunday.
