Atletico Madrid Engages in Transfer Talks with Manchester City for Julian Alvarez Amid Growing Interest from Paris Saint-Germain

Hey, football fans! It looks like Atletico Madrid is now in talks with Manchester City regarding a possible transfer for Julian Alvarez.

According to Jack Gaughan from Mail Sport, Paris Saint-Germain is also eyeing the talented forward.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico made an attempt to secure Alvarez earlier this summer but didn’t manage to close the deal.

The buzz is that Alvarez could come with a hefty price tag, potentially over £70 million.

His future at City is quite uncertain at the moment, as the 24-year-old is keen on getting more game time.

Since Alvarez joined City in 2022, he’s made 103 appearances, netting 36 goals and assisting 18 times.

However, with Erling Haaland dominating the spotlight, Alvarez is struggling to secure a regular starting spot.

Alvarez recently played for Argentina at the Olympics and was quite involved, providing two assists in a match against Iraq.

Unfortunately, Argentina was knocked out by France in the quarter-finals, leading to some on-field tensions after the match.

Alvarez has expressed a desire to start more often in crucial games. He mentioned, “Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at City. But… in the end, you don’t like being left out of important matches; you want to contribute.”

He added that he’d take some time to consider his options, saying, “I’ll take my time to think about what I want for myself.

We will see after the Games. First, if I can, I will take a few days off. Then we will decide.”

Guardiola’s Response

City manager Pep Guardiola wasn’t too concerned about Alvarez’s situation. He responded, “I don’t think about replacing.

I knew he said he will think about it.

Once he has finished thinking, his agent will call Txiki [Begiristain] and we will see what happens.”

Guardiola acknowledged that many players want to be part of the big games, adding, “18, 19 players as well want to play the big games.”

He emphasized that Alvarez should take his time to decide and then communicate his decision.

Alvarez’s Clarification

In response to Guardiola’s remarks, Alvarez clarified, “I didn’t say anything bad. I just said that I was going to think about it like I do every season to make an analysis of what happened last season, a projection of what may come.”

He assured, “I am comfortable and happy at City, which is a great club. So I didn’t say anything bad.”

Alvarez still has four years remaining on his contract with Manchester City.
