A venture capital firm known for backing some of the fastest-growing technology startups has significantly expanded its investment capacity after completing the fundraising process for its latest fund.

Animal Capital Secures $33 Million for Third Investment Fund

New York-based venture capital firm Animal Capital has announced the successful closing of its third investment fund, raising $33 million to support emerging startups.

The new fund marks a substantial increase from the firm’s previous raises, following Fund I at $13 million and Fund II at $16 million.

The latest fundraising effort attracted support from a diverse group of high-profile investors, including Paris Hilton, Kevin Mayer, Justin Kan, Gary Cohn, Rich Miner, Jason Karp, Pete Davidson, Mark Wahlberg, Christina Aguilera, James Corden, Taylor Fritz, and MrBeast.

Focus Remains on Consumer-Focused Technology Startups

According to the firm, Fund III will continue its strategy of investing in early-stage companies, with a primary emphasis on businesses based in the United States.

The fund is particularly interested in startups using technology to improve everyday consumer experiences, whether through convenience, efficiency, or entertainment.

The approach reflects Animal Capital’s long-standing focus on identifying promising technology and software ventures during their earliest stages of development.

Building a Reputation in Startup Investing

Established in 2020 by Marshall Sandman, Animal Capital was created with the goal of reshaping early-stage venture investing.

The firm combines traditional investment banking expertise with direct operational involvement, aiming to provide founders with both capital and strategic support.

Over the past five years, the investment strategy has helped the company assemble a portfolio that includes several of the startup ecosystem’s most valuable private businesses.

The firm reports having invested in three decacorns and four unicorns, many of them during seed or Series A funding rounds.

Portfolio Includes Some of Tech’s Fastest-Growing Companies

Among Animal Capital’s most notable investments is Whatnot, which has reached a valuation of approximately $11.5 billion.

The portfolio also includes Colossal Biosciences, valued at around $10.3 billion, along with Whop, which has achieved a valuation of $1.6 billion.

Another major success story is Underdog Sports, which has been valued at roughly $1.3 billion.

Animal Capital’s leadership team, including Managing Partner Dylann Sands, participated in the early financing rounds of each of these companies.

Previous Funds Delivered Major Acquisition Wins

The firm’s earlier funds have also generated several strategic exits through acquisitions by larger companies.

Among the standout transactions was Saturn, which was acquired by Snapchat.

Logistics technology company Deliverr was purchased by Shopify, while custom tattoo brand Inkbox joined BIC through acquisition.

The list of exits also includes Stage10, which became part of eBay.

Looking Ahead With an Expanding Portfolio

As Fund III begins deploying capital, Animal Capital continues to maintain positions in a number of rapidly growing businesses.

Companies currently serving as key holdings within the portfolio include Unrivaled, Somos, Sundays For Dogs, Breakaway, Array Labs, and BuyWander.

With a fund size more than double that of its previous investment vehicles, the firm is positioning itself to take larger stakes in promising startups while continuing its focus on identifying high-growth technology companies at the earliest stages of their development.
