In a breathtaking display of perseverance and skill, Alex Yee from Team GB clinched a gold medal in the men’s triathlon at the Paris Olympics.
Just a few years ago, Yee had to settle for silver in Tokyo, but this time he was determined to change the narrative.
As the race approached its final lap, Yee seemed out of contention, trailing New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde by 14 seconds in the last 2km run.
However, in a thrilling turn of events, Yee caught up with Wilde and surged past him, securing a dramatic victory.
Yee completed the race in 1 hour, 43 minutes, and 33 seconds, earning Team GB its fifth gold medal of the Games. Wilde finished six seconds behind, taking silver, while France’s Leo Bergere claimed the bronze medal.
This victory saw Yee emulate Alistair Brownlee, becoming Britain’s second Olympic triathlon champion.
The 26-year-old, who had previously won relay gold in Tokyo, set his sights on individual triumph in Paris.
Despite the intense competition and a seemingly insurmountable deficit, Yee’s determination and strategic prowess led him to a stunning finish on the streets of Paris.

With less than a kilometre to go in the 10km race, it appeared Yee might once again end with silver.
