In a bold statement, Julius Malema, the President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), issued a strong warning about the consequences of a no-confidence motion against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Malema cautioned that if the motion succeeded, the leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), John Steenhuisen, could become South Africa’s next president.

Malema Opposes Motion Against Godongwana, Supports One Against Ramaphosa

Malema made it clear that the EFF would not support the MK Party’s no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

Instead, the EFF leader stated that his party would back a motion targeting President Ramaphosa.

Malema emphasized that, despite the calls for Godongwana’s resignation following the VAT hike reversal, the real focus was on the removal of Ramaphosa from office.

“We are prepared to vote with the DA, mobilize anyone we can, and work together to remove the president,” Malema declared.

He further suggested that the ANC’s ongoing struggles could pave the way for Steenhuisen’s leadership if they were not careful.

Malema Warns of a “White” Presidency Under Steenhuisen

In his remarks, Malema warned of the potential outcome of the no-confidence motion.

“If the ANC continues as it is, this country could have a white president,” he said, referring specifically to Steenhuisen.

His statement reflects the growing frustration within the EFF with the ANC’s leadership, especially as the party faces internal challenges.

He also predicted that the ANC would eventually lose more than just metro municipalities, pointing to the party’s failure to heed warnings back in 2016. “We told them then they would lose the metros.

They thought we were joking, but now it’s happening. The DA is moving ahead, and the ANC is losing ground.”

Malema’s Vision for the National Government of Unity

Malema also touched on his interest in forming a National Government of Unity (GNU), but made it clear that this was only a possibility if the DA and Freedom Front Plus were excluded.

The idea of a GNU reflects Malema’s desire for a more inclusive government but one that aligns with the EFF’s vision, without the influence of the DA and other parties that he feels have failed the country.
