Activist Allie Law Seeks Public Donations to Cover Legal Fees After Multiple Arrests for Protests in London and Beyond

In an unusual twist, Allie Law, a member of Just Stop Oil, has reached out to the public for financial assistance.

Law, who has been active with the environmental group for over a year, is asking people to help cover her £1,200 legal expenses.

The request comes after a series of incidents where Law was arrested during various protests, including a near-miss with a coach while blocking a road.

She highlights her experiences in a GoFundMe campaign, where she candidly shares the challenges she faced during her activism.

At just 24 years old, Law has already had a turbulent year of activism. She recalls her first arrest in Parliament Square, Westminster, just a month after joining Just Stop Oil.

This initial encounter with the law didn’t lead to a court case, but subsequent actions did.

A slow walk protest at Hanger Lane, Ealing, resulted in a £300 fine, £250 in court costs, and a £120 surcharge.

Her protest escalated when she sprayed paint at TotalEnergies’ London headquarters, leading to another fine and compensation costs.

A Dramatic Encounter

One of the most harrowing experiences Law describes involved attempting to block a coach heading to the Bibby Stockholm barge off the Dorset coast.

Law recounts how a coach driver allegedly tried to run her and other protesters over, and she narrowly avoided injury thanks to a fellow protester.

Despite the dangers, she wasn’t arrested during this incident, though three others were.

Reflections and a Call for Help

Law’s most recent arrest was back in Parliament Square, where she claims she was held for 54 hours, missing her court hearing. She expresses frustration over this treatment and mentions a subsequent ban from London.

Reflecting on her year of activism, Law states that she judges her actions by her own internal morals, not by the laws she may have broken. She remains steadfast in her belief that she did the right thing.

To cover the financial fallout from her activism, Law has set up a crowdfunding appeal.

She aims to raise £1,200 to cover her legal costs, but so far, only £295 has been donated.

Despite the financial and legal challenges, Law remains resolute, expressing gratitude for having her court cases behind her and hoping for public support to manage her debts.
