Hundreds of young people searching for work, training and career opportunities gathered at the Brighton Centre as the city hosted its first-ever Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair.
The event attracted more than 650 attendees from Brighton and surrounding areas, connecting them directly with employers and training providers from a wide range of industries.
The initiative forms part of the UK government’s Youth Guarantee programme, which aims to ensure that every young person has access to employment, education or skills training.
More Than 50 Employers Offer Jobs, Apprenticeships and Career Advice
The event, branded “Launch Your Future,” brought together over 50 employers and education providers under one roof, giving attendees the chance to explore hundreds of available jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities.
Well-known organisations including Mace Construction, JD Sports, PureGym, Gatwick Airport employers, Sussex Police, Brighton Palace Pier and Nando’s were among those meeting face-to-face with young jobseekers throughout the day.
Recruiters not only promoted current vacancies but also discussed career pathways, apprenticeship programmes and long-term development opportunities with attendees.
Hundreds of Interviews Secured During the Event
The jobs fair produced immediate results, with more than 200 interviews arranged before the event concluded.
Some of those interviews progressed to second-stage recruitment discussions, while several attendees were given the opportunity to move closer to receiving job offers.
The event was designed to remove barriers between employers and young people by allowing direct conversations that are often unavailable through traditional online applications.
Workshops Equip Young People With Practical Job-Hunting Skills
In addition to employer stands, visitors were offered practical workshops aimed at improving their chances of securing employment.
Sessions covered topics such as creating stronger CVs, preparing for interviews, understanding apprenticeship assessments and using artificial intelligence tools to enhance job searches.
Participants also received information about Movement to Work placements and other programmes designed to help young people gain workplace experience.
Government Services Provide Tailored Employment Support
Representatives from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) were on hand throughout the day to offer personalised guidance.
Advice desks provided information on live vacancies, apprenticeship opportunities, childcare support, application assistance and other services available to young people entering the workforce.
Before meeting employers, attendees also participated in group sessions that helped them build confidence and prepare for conversations with recruiters.
Government Highlights Commitment to Youth Employment
Speaking about the event, Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden described Brighton’s inaugural Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair as a strong example of the government’s efforts to connect young people directly with employers.
He said the event demonstrated how practical engagement can help young jobseekers identify the next step in their careers, with some leaving the venue having already secured interviews or potential job offers.
McFadden also praised local businesses for supporting the Youth Guarantee initiative, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring every young person has the opportunity to either earn or continue learning.
Part of a £2.5 Billion National Youth Guarantee Programme
The Brighton event forms part of a wider £2.5 billion government investment aimed at tackling youth unemployment across the country.
Through the Youth Guarantee, people under the age of 25 are expected to receive access to one of several high-quality pathways, including paid employment, continued education, apprenticeships, traineeships, work experience placements or Sector-Based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs).
Officials say the programme is intended to provide long-term support while helping employers connect with young talent in their local communities.
Local Businesses Unite to Support Brighton’s Young Workforce
The extensive list of participating organisations reflected the diversity of employment opportunities available across the region.
Businesses from construction, retail, hospitality, healthcare, aviation, education, public services and logistics all took part, alongside charities, training providers and government agencies.
By bringing employers and young people together in one location, organisers hope the event has created lasting employment opportunities while strengthening the local workforce and giving young residents greater confidence as they begin their careers.
