The community of Torquay is in mourning following the tragic death of Jonathan Elliott, a 62-year-old grandfather, who was struck by a car on November 1.

Jonathan, affectionately known as Jon, was walking on foot when a two-vehicle crash occurred outside the Sainsbury’s petrol station in Cornwall.

The accident, involving a black Hyundai Getz and a silver Honda Jazz, led to severe injuries, and despite being rushed to Derriford Hospital, Jon passed away six days later, on November 7.

Family Pays Tribute to a Loving Man

Jon’s family shared a heartfelt tribute, describing him as a beloved member of their circle and the local community.

“Jon was loved dearly by his family and friends,” they said in a statement.

“He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.

This loss has left a significant hole in our lives, and at this time, we ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult period.”

The family’s words reflect the deep love and respect they held for him and the profound impact he had on those around him.

Investigations Continue After the Collision

The collision not only affected Jon but also injured another individual inside the petrol station.

This person was treated for their injuries and has since been recovering at home.

Sergeant Troy Bennett, who leads the serious collisions investigation team, extended his condolences to Jon’s family and confirmed that authorities were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.

He also thanked the public for their swift actions in providing first aid and assisting officers.

Appeal for Witnesses

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the incident to come forward.

Devon and Cornwall Police have requested that witnesses contact them via their website or by calling 101, referencing log number 593 from November 1, 2024.

The investigation into the crash continues, and authorities are hopeful that additional information will help shed light on the events leading to Jon’s untimely death.
