Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukrainian forces carried out a series of long-range strikes targeting Russia‘s energy infrastructure, describing the operations as part of a broader strategy to increase pressure on Moscow as the war continues.
Oil Infrastructure Targeted Across Several Russian Regions
In a statement, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian security and defense units successfully struck multiple facilities connected to Russia’s oil sector over recent days.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) hit two oil depots located in Russia’s Stavropol and Tver regions, each situated roughly 500 kilometers from the front line.
Additional Fuel and Oil Sites Reportedly Hit
Zelenskyy also said Ukraine’s Defense Forces targeted a reserve fuel storage facility located approximately 800 kilometers from the battlefield.
He added that an oil pumping station in Ufa, nearly 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, was struck during the latest wave of operations.
Another reported target was an oil loading terminal in Russia’s Rostov region, located about 200 kilometers from the front line.
Kyiv Describes Operations as Response to Continuing War
The Ukrainian president said the attacks form part of what he described as a “long-range sanctions plan,” aimed at weakening Russia’s ability to sustain its military campaign.
He argued that the strikes were a direct response to what Kyiv views as Moscow’s decision to prolong the conflict while continuing attacks against Ukraine.
Zelenskyy Praises Ukrainian Forces
Zelenskyy thanked members of Ukraine’s military and security services involved in the operations, praising their continued efforts to carry out long-range missions against strategic targets.
He reiterated that Ukraine has previously proposed ways to end the war, adding that every decision by Russia to continue the conflict should bring the consequences of war closer to Russian territory.
Russia had not immediately commented on Zelenskyy’s claims regarding the reported strikes or the extent of any damage to the targeted facilities.
