Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held talks with a bipartisan, bicameral delegation from the United States Congress, focusing on Ukraine’s air defense needs, diplomatic efforts to end the war, and proposed new sanctions against Russia.

The meeting brought together senior U.S. lawmakers from both the Senate and House of Representatives as Kyiv continues to seek sustained American support.

Air Defense Remains Ukraine’s Immediate Priority

During the discussions, Zelenskyy briefed the delegation on Ukraine’s ongoing shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

The president said additional contributions through the PURL initiative, along with other air defense assistance, remain the country’s highest priority as Russia continues launching missile attacks against Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.

He stressed that strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities is essential to protecting lives while the conflict continues.

Diplomacy and Security Discussed

According to Zelenskyy, the meeting included a detailed exchange on diplomatic prospects and the conditions necessary to advance efforts toward peace.

The Ukrainian leader said both sides held substantive discussions on how international support could help create a framework for meaningful diplomatic progress.

Lawmakers Review Russia Sanctions Proposal

Another major topic of the meeting was proposed legislation aimed at increasing sanctions on Russia.

Zelenskyy said maintaining pressure on Moscow remains an important element of efforts to end the war, adding that the sanctions initiative could make a meaningful contribution toward achieving peace.

Ukraine has consistently called for stronger economic and political measures against Russia while seeking continued military assistance from its international partners.

U.S. Delegation Reaffirms Support

The delegation included Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Lindsey Graham, Richard Durbin, Christopher Coons and Mike Rounds, along with Representative Mike Turner.

Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for what he described as the lawmakers’ continued support for Ukraine, including their recognition of Ukrainian military personnel and assurances that American assistance would continue.

President Thanks American Partners

Following the meeting, Zelenskyy thanked the United States and the American people for their ongoing backing since the start of the war.

He said continued cooperation between Kyiv and Washington remains vital as Ukraine works to strengthen its defenses, advance diplomatic efforts and pursue a lasting peace.
