In a rather puzzling turn of events, President Joe Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, found himself in the spotlight during a recent encounter with reporters.
While navigating through anti-Israel protest blockades on the White House lawn, O’Connor was approached and asked if he was indeed the president’s physician.
As he made his way towards the White House, O’Connor offered a cryptic reply, saying, “I don’t know. I don’t know,” before continuing on his path.
Despite this odd response, he went on to assure that President Biden’s health and mental cognition were “excellent,” and there was no immediate need for a cognitive test.
O’Connor, who has been a fixture in Biden’s life for over a decade, has played a significant role, especially during the challenging times when Biden’s son Beau was battling cancer.
Known simply as “doc” among those in the White House, he rarely speaks to the media, and Thursday’s encounter was no different.
His primary focus seemed to be on navigating the increased security measures due to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit.
When pressed by the New York Post about his role as Biden’s doctor, O’Connor initially seemed hesitant but eventually confirmed his position.
He was quick to add that Biden’s health was “excellent” and implied that he would likely not update the press on Biden’s condition.
O’Connor remained hopeful that this policy wouldn’t change before Biden’s term concludes in January.
Addressing Health Concerns
Regarding speculation about Biden’s health, O’Connor addressed concerns about Parkinson’s disease, firmly stating, “No, he’s good,” and denied that visits from Parkinson’s specialist Dr. Kevin Cannard were related to such fears.
He clarified that Cannard’s visits were part of routine annual physical exams rather than any specific health issues.
Clarifying Medical Visits
O’Connor elaborated on Cannard’s visits to the White House, explaining that Cannard had come eight times between July 2023 and March 2024.
These visits were largely for routine checkups and to support the health needs of active-duty military personnel assigned to the White House.
Rising Speculations
Speculation about Biden’s health has been fueled by various incidents, including a poor debate performance on June 27 against Donald Trump while he was suffering from a cold.
Despite subsequent public events, doubts about his health persisted. On Sunday, Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race but committed to finishing his term.
Observers of his recent national address noted it was brief and heavily reliant on a teleprompter, making it challenging to assess his overall well-being.
Expert Opinions
Dr. Ernst von Schwarz, a cardiologist in California, suggested that Biden’s symptoms, such as a dry mouth and limited hand movements, could indicate cognitive decline or a neurodegenerative condition.
However, he also noted that these symptoms might be related to medication.
